The Problem
The client in Lakeside had a standard, high-walled bathtub that presented both a safety risk and an aesthetic bottleneck in a small bathroom. They required a modern, accessible “age-in-place” solution but wanted to avoid a traditional shower curb, which can still be a trip hazard. Achieving a true curbless entry on a concrete slab is a significant structural challenge, as the shower floor must be lower than the rest of the bathroom to allow for proper drainage without water escaping into the living space.
The Solution
Castle Stone + Tile executed a full structural reconfiguration. Our team used a jackhammer to excavate the existing concrete slab, lowering the subfloor to create the necessary pitch for a zero-entry transition. To ensure a lifetime of leak-free performance, we installed the Schluter®-System, a premium integrated waterproofing kit. For the finishes, we used large-format 12″x24″ porcelain wall tiles with a custom glass mosaic inlay, paired with a classic octagon-and-dot mosaic for the shower pan to provide superior slip resistance.
The Results

By removing the physical barrier of the tub and curb, the bathroom feels significantly more spacious and open.
